A Study of $$beta$$-decay and delayed neutron based on microscopic nuclear structure model for applications

Minato, Futoshi

no journal, ,

While mean-field theory has been extensively applied in nuclei on the nuclear chart, majority of nucleus investigated has been limited to even-one. This would be because a relatively simple picture of even-nuclei and easiness to handle with mean-field theory. The shortcoming which the mean-field theory is not able to calculate odd nuclei properly is a barrier to apply the theory to studies of nuclear data and nucleosynthesis. To overcome this problem, we worked on two-body and three-body models applicable to odd-nuclei (either proton or neutron numbers is odd). We calculated Gamow-Teller states with this model, and estimated beta-decay half-lives and delayed neutron branching ratios. The obtained results reproduced the experimental data better than a conventional approach. We also discuss future perspectives of nuclear physics for applications to sciences demanding accurate theoretical predictions like nucleosynthesis.
